Memory doll
Somewhere for the first shoes to live
Baby’s first shoes are tiny for such a short time. Then they go into a drawer, or a box, and we take them out once a year and hold them for a minute.
Golli Goth’s oversized feet fit an infant shoe. So the shoes can go on a doll instead — one that sits on a shelf, gets picked up, and is made with eyes that belong to that child.

Before you cut
A few gentle tips
01
Measure the shoe first
Measure inside the shoe — length and width — and hold the foot sole piece against it before you cut. If the shoe is snug or roomy, adjust the sole and foot top together so they still match.
02
Pad the foot well
Pack the feet firmly with fibre filling so they hold the shoe’s shape. A soft foot lets the shoe slip; a well-padded one keeps it sitting just right.
03
Make the eyes theirs
The eyes are where she becomes someone. Paint or appliqué them, and personalise them for the child — a scrap from a favourite outfit makes a lovely appliqué.
Shoes that are precious and fragile can be stitched loosely in place, so they stay on through cuddles but can be lifted off one day.
Making memory dolls for others?
