The Golli Goth Makerverse · for makers
Create the friend you need. Since 2007.
Golli Goth began as a rag doll pattern made for a pair of teenagers — a companion with big black eyes and room for a whole personality. Then the grandmothers started knitting for her.

Somewhere between the knitting circle and the bedroom door, two generations stopped having much to say to each other. A rag doll changed that.

THE PROBLEM
Every stall looks a bit the same
Walk a handmade market and you’ll see the same crochet critters, the same scrunchies, the same candles, all lovingly made. It’s hard to be the table people stop at.
AND QUIETLY
The makers and the teens drifted apart
The women knitting doll clothes had beautiful skills and fewer young people asking for them. The teenagers wanted something that looked like them. Those two groups rarely shared a table.
SO, GOLLI GOTH
One doll both sides wanted
A bald calico rag doll with oversized feet and two big black eyes, made to be personalised. Teens loved her. She fitted the granny-knitted jumpers. And no one else at the market has her.
Where it started
A doll that reconnected generations
In 2007, Golli Goth’s creator, L. Douglass, drafted a rag doll pattern for her then-teenage children: an anime-style companion they could use to express themselves.
The idea came from the CWA women at the Windsor Sunday markets, whose hand-knitted doll clothes were a quiet marvel. Here, finally, was a doll teenagers actually wanted — and one the knitting teams could dress.
It was a screaming success. The teens loved them, the dolls fitted the granny-knitted jumpers, and two generations found a reason to sit down together.
